On top of a hill above Downtown Seattle and Elliot Bay, Queen Anne has apartments, single family residences and huge mansions. Queen Anne is home to 29 official Seattle landmarks including 12 historic homes. The old Queen Anne High School, since converted to condominium apartments, is one of these landmarks. The hill flattens out on top to make way for a lengthy commercial district along Queen Anne Avenue. You’ll find cute bistros, coffee shops and all the essentials, so residents rarely need to leave the top of the hill to find what they need. Several streets in the Queen Anne neighborhood boast magnificent views of Lake Union, Lake Washington, Elliott Bay, the Ship Canal, or even the Space Needle due to its central proximity and elevation (the highest in the city). Queen Anne is recognizable due to its three broadcasting towers at the top. This area was heavily transformed by the 1962 World’s Fair with the development of the Seattle Center at its base.
